Goal
Buy salt pans along the coast. Most points at the end wins. Everything is on the table: every purse, every lot and every bid is public, all game.
A lot
Each lot is one salt pan. It has a salt value (how many points it scores) and a flat, which is its colour:
The three rounds
- One lot per player is turned face up. Everyone can see the whole round before the bidding starts.
- The lots are auctioned one at a time, left to right.
- At the end of the round every player collects their income, and the next round is revealed.
After the third round the game ends and the pans are scored.
Bidding
- Bidding goes round the table. On your turn you either raise the bid or pass.
- A raise must be at least one coin more than the standing bid, and you can never bid more coins than you have.
- Once you pass, you are out of that lot. You cannot come back in.
- When everyone else has passed, the last bidder pays their bid and takes the lot.
- If every player passes without a single bid, the lot is left to the tide and nobody gets it.
Coins
- You start with 10 coins and collect 5 more at the start of rounds two and three. That is all the money there is, so spending early means bidding light later.
- Pass every lot in a round and you take 3 coins at the end of it. Sitting a round out is a real plan, not a wasted turn.
Scoring
- Every pan you own scores its salt value.
- Different flats score a set bonus: .
- Leftover coins do not score, but they break a tie. After that, the wider spread of flats wins; if everything is level, the win is shared.
On screen
- The row at the top is everyone's coins and points. Tap it for the full breakdown.
- The strip under the round is this round's lots: the one with the ring is on the block.
- Use − and + to change your bid, then tap Bid. Or tap Pass to drop out.
- Keys: ↑ / ↓ change the bid, Enter bids, P passes.
Tips
- A small pan in a flat you are missing can be worth more than a big one you already have.
- Watch the purses, not just the pans. A rival with two coins left cannot stop you.
- The last round is the one to be rich for: coins you never spend are almost worthless.
