A city is lit by hand each night. Most of you are lamplighters and want the districts lit. A few are Ashen and want them dark. The Ashen know each other. Nobody else knows anything.
Played online with 5–10 people. Three districts lit and the lamplighters win the night; three dark, or five refusals in a row, and the Ashen do.
A round
The Warden (it passes round the table) picks a crew of the round's size.
Everyone votes openly to send that crew, all at once. A majority sends it; a tie refuses it. Every vote is shown and stays in the record.
If the crew is refused, the Warden passes on and the next one tries. Five refusals in a row hand the night to the Ashen.
Each crew member secretly plays Light or Snuff . A lamplighter may only play Light; an Ashen may play either.
One Snuff darkens the district. With 7 or more players the fourth district needs two. The number of Snuffs is shown; who played them never is.
The Ashen
5–6 players: 2 Ashen · 7–9: 3 · 10: 4.
An Ashen wants to look useful: get on crews, vote sensibly, and pick the moment to Snuff.
Nobody's role is ever revealed by the game, not even at the end. What you can prove is what people did.
