You run a bakery in Cakehalla, where only the most legendary bakers are remembered. Collect ingredients, spend them on cards (tools, pastries and showstopper cakes) and win over famous customers. Cards and customers give points. The most points at the end wins.
Ingredients
Each ingredient has its own colour and shape. Saffron is rare and wild: it can stand in for any ingredient when you pay, but you can only get it by reserving a card.
The market holds 4 of each ingredient with 2 bakers, 5 with 3 and 7 with 4. There are always 5 Saffron.
Cards
Cards come in three tiers: Pantry & tools (cheap, mostly 0–1 points), Pastries & bakes (1–3 points) and Showstoppers (3–5 points). Four of each tier are face up on the counter, and the rest wait in a face-down pile.
Every card you own makes one ingredient 1 cheaper for every card you buy from then on. That discount is shown in the corner of the card. Build up discounts and big cakes become cheap, sometimes free.
Your turn: do exactly one of these
- Take 3 different ingredients from the market. (If fewer than 3 kinds are left, take one of each kind that is left.)
- Take 2 of the same ingredient. You can only do this if that pile has 4 or more before you take.
- Reserve a card: take a face-up card, or the top card of a pile without showing it to anyone, into your hand, and gain 1 Saffron if any are left. You can hold at most 3 reserved cards. Only you can buy them.
- Buy a card from the counter or from your reserved cards. Pay its cost minus your discounts. Saffron can pay for any missing ingredient. Spent ingredients go back to the market, and an empty space on the counter is refilled from the pile.
End of your turn
- 10 ingredients at most. If you hold more than 10 (Saffron included), put back ingredients of your choice until you have 10.
- Famous customers visit on their own. If your cards give at least the discounts a customer shows, they visit you for 3 points. If more than one could visit, you choose one. Only one visits per turn.
End of the game
When a baker reaches 15 points, the current round is played out so that everyone has had the same number of turns. Then the most points wins. If there's a tie, the baker who bought fewer cards wins. If that's tied too, they share the win.
On this screen
- Top: the famous customers. Each shows the discounts it wants; a tick means you already have that many.
- The counter: three rows of cards, cheapest at the bottom. A card shows its points (top left), the ingredient it makes cheaper (top right) and its cost. Costs your discounts already cover are faded. Cards you can buy now glow. Tap a card to buy or reserve it; tap the stack at the start of a row to reserve its top card face down.
- Market: tap ingredients to pick them, then tap Take. Tap the same one twice to take 2.
- Your bakery: for each ingredient, the small card is your discount and the round token is how many you hold. Your reserved cards sit beside it.
- Tap a baker at the top for their details. ⋯ → Game info has the scores, piles and the kitchen log.
Tips
- Early on, cheap cards are worth it for their discounts alone.
- Look at the customers. Aim your discounts at one or two of them.
- Reserving gets you Saffron and keeps a card your rivals want out of their hands.
